Jose Lepervanche - Bio

I currently work as Area Chair, IS&T Faculty Training at the University of Phoenix - North Florida Campus. I also teach IS&T and eBusiness courses on ground and other online universities such as UOP Online and Capella University.

I teach Object Oriented Programming (Visual Basic.NET), Web Development (XHTML, ASP.NET), Environmental Science, Strategic Management and IT Project Management. I also have facilitated courses and workshops in Public Presentations (Public Speaking and MS PowerPoint), Technical Communications, Critical Thinking, Technology Investments, Computer Graphics (PhotoShop, Image Ready), Introduction to Internet (History, Search Engines, Web hosting, Web marketing and e-commerce), MS FrontPage and MS Office. I have been online trainer and publisher, internet consultant, bilingual trainer (English and Spanish) and director of several Internet projects and services in the US and Latin America. I was Education Coach of AIU - Fort Lauderdale and I was responsible for Faculty Development.

I am interested in the use of the Internet and interactive multimedia for online learning and teaching, investment, entertainment, publishing, internet security and decision analysis. I finished my PhD in Organization & Management with specialization in Information Technology Management at Capella University(www.capella.edu). I have been pioneer in several online initiatives and I believe in the growing trend of online education. My current research interest is bringing me to the use of information systems and the World Wide Web to improve the e-family decision making process. My dissertation topic is about usefulness of Cable News Networks web sites as decision making information resources.

I am a retired Lieutenant Commander from the Venezuelan Navy and I have a Nuclear Engineer degree (Risk, Information and Decision Analysis) and a M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. My undergraduate degree from the Venezuelan Naval Academy (First of the Class) is a Lic. in Naval Sciences (focused on Electronics). I also was Honor Graduate of the International Electronic Warfare Course at the US Navy Atlantic Fleet Combat Training Center in Virginia.

As owner of Promarine Promotions (www.promarine.com), I have been very active in the promotion and sales of online services and interactive multimedia, with emphasis in the marine and coastal areas. I publish a Guide of Marine Events and I have planned and organized training seminars, multimedia presentations and websites related to public speaking, e-commerce, web advertising, energy and the environment. Our new venture is Infoleadership, Internet Information Strategies.

I have previously been Director of International Operations of ITINET Online Services and DELPHI in Spanish where I was responsible for the planning, operations, training and marketing of Internet and online services in Latin America and to Hispanics in the US. I also directed the project that introduced the first commercial online service in Venezuela. Before retiring from the Venezuelan Navy, I served aboard frigates in Electronics, Communications, and Electronic Warfare. I was Director of the only nuclear research reactor where I was responsible for training and management of energy, environmental and information systems projects.

I am a sailboat Captain, life adventurer, traveler, coastal explorer and beachcomber. I extensively use sea metaphors, humor and analogies in speeches, courses, seminars and publications. I am a Bilingual (English and Spanish) Public Speaker, Advanced Toastmaster & Competent Leader from Toastmasters International where I have won several humorous speeches. I am an amateur caricaturist and event cartoonist. I publish my Eventoons in my website at www.lepervanche.com/cartoons.  I did a series of inspirational drawings related to the 9-11 events.

Because I believe that life is a continuous adventure, I enjoy every day of my life with my wife Flor, who is also a retired Lieutenant Commander from the Venezuelan Navy. We worked together, retired and got married. At home, I am the Captain but she is the Admiral. I also have more adventures with our four children, two of them recently graduated from college, one has his own business and the youngest is in middle school and he is a Life Scout. I am an old Scout leader and I have shared the values of Scouting with my children and their friends. Trying to guide our life sailboat to more spiritual levels and to help my family and others, my wife and I give seminars about family and marriage to other couples at our local catholic church and community organizations.

Welcome aboard, set the sails and enjoy this learning journey!!!.
